Meet the Potter!
I’m Amy Thompson, the owner and maker for Claymi Pottery.
I started my clay journey in late 2019 when I took an introductory wheel throwing class at a local arts center here in Rochester, New York. Working at the wheel quickly became my place of solace; where I found respite from the noise of daily life and space to just be. When the world shut down in 2020, I bought a cheap wheel and kept honing my skills in my dad’s garage. Since then, I’ve bought my very own kiln, a professional wheel, and set up a cozy little pottery studio in my basement (lovingly named “Claymi’s Clay Dungeon”).
My philosophy with my work is something like the Latin phrase “amor fati” meaning “love of fate.” I try to embrace every aspect of the process: my first finished mug, a gorgeous glaze combination, a catastrophic kiln failure, a bad day in the studio. Be it success or failure, I’m just happy to be making pots!
My love for clay and craft grows every day. Creating these pieces and sharing them with you gives me a deep sense of purpose and connection. My hope is that they become part of your daily rituals, adding warmth, meaning, and a sense of presence to the ordinary.
